Louis Freedberg, Host & Producer

Media innovator and veteran education journalist Louis Freedberg was executive director and editor-in-chief of EdSource for over a decade until 2021. Freedberg has analyzed and reported on local, state, and national education policy. He was the founding director of California Watch at the Center for Investigative Reporting. He spent 15 years at the San Francisco Chronicle, where he was an award-winning education reporter, Washington correspondent, columnist, and member of the editorial board. He has reported for numerous news outlets, including The New York Times, the Washington Post, National Public Radio, The Nation, and American Community Media. He has a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from UC Berkeley and a B.A. in child development from Yale University.
